Ghanaian midfielder Alhassan Wakaso says he will prefer to leave Lorient following their relegation from Ligue 1.
Les Merlus will be playing in Ligue 2 next season after their 2-1 aggregate defeat to Troyes in the promotional playoffs.
Lorient missed a golden opportunity to retain their premiership status after failing to score before their home fans in the return leg of the playoffs having gone 2-1 down in the away encounter.
As usual with clubs that get relegated, several of their top players either leave or are poached by clubs who feature at the top flight.
And Wakaso reveals he will welcome such a move but admits it is not his decision to make but that of the club.
“I would want to move to play at a club in a higher league but it is the club that must decide this,” he told FootballMadeInGhana.com.
“It will be difficult for me to leave because I still have a three-year contract with them.
“So even though I would like to leave, it will depend more on the club.”
Wakaso joined Lorient just in January from Portuguese club Rio Ave.
He signed a three-and-a-half year contract but Lorient failed to stay in Ligue 1.
