Ghanaian midfielder Kwame ” Conte” Bonsu has been sentenced to two years in prison for raping his Swedish wife and physically assaulting her.
The budding talent has also been dismissed by his club Gefle IF and will not step foot in the Scandinavian country again after serving his jail term.
In a press release issued by the club on Friday afternoon, Bonsu in addition will pay a fine of 245,000 kronor (at least 25,000 euros, $28,000) in compensation to his wife, who is a Swedish national.
Kwame moved to Sweden in 2013 from then Ghana Premier League side Kpando Heart of Lions and met his wife in 2014 before they married two years ago.
The Ghanaian is said to have subjected his wife to severe beatings in November 2015 after which he forcibly had bouts of sex with her after he had refused to let her out.
The case was sent to a court in Sweden but Bonsu repeatedly denied the charges. However testimony from relatives and close sources made the court to charge the midfield enforcer.
