The Ghana Referees Association are meeting today (Tuesday) to deliberate and possibly take action against former Ghana striker Tony Yeboah over a comment he made.
The ex- Eintracht Frankfurt striker yesterday indicatedthat some knights of the whistle asked him to pay bribe when he was running his defunct Yegoala FC of which he did not.
Yeboah pointed out that this made the referees to gang up against him which eventually led to his club being relegated.
“I remember my own club Yegoala FC, referees and other officials told me I must pay before qualifying to the premiership but I refused to pay and before I realized I was in division 2,” Yeboah told Kumasi-based Angel FM.
The allegations leveled against the referees did not go down well with the top hierarchy of their association and they have called an emergency meeting to discuss the issue.
“The allegations by Yeboah might cause damage to our reputation so we are meeting to take immediate action on it by the close of the day,” A source with the Referees Association stated.
Yeboah opted not to continue his Yegoala FC in 2010 after what he termed as poor referee decisions to destroy his club.
